We have had a busy, exciting couple of weeks getting our first sponsorship team members trained and settled into their roles!
Meet Ngozi
Our lovely new team member Ngozi has kindly offered her experience since joining us through our new sponsorship scheme. Ngozi provides insight into transitioning from her experiences with healthcare procedures in Nigeria to healthcare in the UK. She also shares the root of her passion for supporting people, which started at a young age.
Friendly new faces and support
I recently started working as a care worker at 3 Trees through their new sponsorship scheme. I feel very lucky to have found such a supportive and caring team to work with. The induction 3 Trees provided was very detailed and well thought out. The small number of trainees meant it was people-focused; this made me feel very supported. I appreciated the time taken to ensure I was comfortable with everything before I started working with the service users.
My new colleagues have been supportive and welcoming, and I have enjoyed interacting with other new team members on the sponsorship. It has been great to relate experiences and learn from each other as we adjust to our new roles.
Transitioning from previous experiences
As someone from Nigeria, I found the health and care industry in the UK quite different from what I am used to. In Nigeria, patients often visit nurses’ and doctors’ homes for check-ups, which I frequently witnessed when I was younger when my mother, a Nurse, would have her patients come to our home. It was a shock to adjust to the different ways of doing care work in the UK, but I am adapting well.
I also worked in domiciliary care before coming to 3 Trees, so it is a nice change not to have to travel from house to house and instead work in supported living- just one location for each shift where you can connect with the people you support instead of rushing from one to another.
Pursuing a career in healthcare
I have always wanted to be a healthcare worker, having a naturally caring nature from my mother and witnessing the amazing work she did as a nurse. Although I initially wanted to do nursing, I decided to study pharmaceutical science and pursue care work instead due to complications with nursing on sponsorship. I am very happy with how things have turned out. One thing that stood out to me in my interview was when I was told about the career progression scheme. I am keen to pursue this opportunity and continue to grow and develop in my role.
Why Ngozi choses to care
One of the things that I love about care work is enabling people to achieve the smallest things we may take for granted. For instance, we might think nothing of hoovering our home, but seeing one of our service users hoover his home and being extremely excited about it is beautiful. I am proud to facilitate people’s independence and help them achieve their goals.
Overall, my experience at 3 Trees Care has been very positive so far, and I look forward to continuing to provide the best care possible to those who need it.
